A few quick facts about me: I attended Warrenton Junior High School Studied Biology at Washington and Lee University and Anthropology at UCLA I speak Turkish, prefer to play midfield in soccer and love West African food.
I grew up in a small town in Virginia 40 minutes west of our nation's capital and at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In middle school I was a short, geeky and obnoxious teenager with a fascination for the natural world and human evolution. I also loved to build and fix things - computers, bikes, furniture etc.
I have called Portland my home since 2001 and began teaching Design and Engineering at Twality in 2017. Teaching Design and Engineering allows me to share with student my love of science, building things and being creative. I would like the Design and Engineering Makerspaces to be a place where students get a chance to discover and pursue their passions in design, engineering, and science. I also want it to be a place where students by being challenged to solve engineering problems gain greater perseverance self awareness and self confidence in using their powers to shape the world around them. Finally, I want the Twality makerspaces to be a heart of a creative community where we learn from each other.
I fell in love with soccer in 6th grade.
My first teaching job. I was a Peace Corps volunteer and taught Math and Science in The Gambia, West Africa 1988
